On Thursday, tragedy struck a small community college in Oregon. A gunman demanded to know the religion of students before executing them. At least 10 have been stolen from their families. Meanwhile, nine more are hospitalized. Murder is against the law in all 50 states. It is also against God’s law. Regardless, politicians took to media markets to demand more gun control laws. If one plans to murder, is more “gun control” a genuine solution? Will a murder be deterred by a “gun free zone” sign?
What these politicians calling for more gun control conveniently forget to mention is the fact that the Oregon college was a already “gun free zone”. Politicians left open a loophole in Oregon state law that allowed the Oregon Department of Education to ban firearms on campus, which stripped students of their God-given, constitutionally protected, innate right to defend themselves.
At the end of the day, politicians, whom are protected by armed guards of their own, are largely to blame for these mass shootings. By and large, the vast majority of mass shootings occur where politicians have stripped law-abiding citizens of their right to defend themselves. “You don’t need a gun. Call the police,” advise politicians. In Oregon, students called the police. For more than 20 minutes, they sat in a dark room and hid in fear for their lives waiting for police to show up.
The police are not to blame. The students certainly aren’t to blame. Only two are to blame. The shooter, and the politicians that enabled him by stripping people of their right to fight for their lives. Swift justice was delivered to the shooter. However, a great injustice delivered by politicians still faces these students. When will politicians be held accountable? That’s what I want to know.
